Licensed Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist
Debra Brown-Grossman, RDN, MPH, is a licensed Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist with special expertise in Pediatric and Adolescent Nutrition. She recently relocated to the Capital District with her husband from northeastern New Jersey where she maintained a full-time insurance based private practice. Debra has a BA from Tulane University and a Masters Degree in Public Health in Nutrition from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans as well as additional training in clinical dietetics from The University of Missouri. In her over 38 years of practice, Debra has developed and directed numerous weight management programs for both adults and children. She is the author of a book chapter on pediatric obesity and has worked as a nutrition specialist for some of our region’s major medical centers including St. Luke Roosevelt, Mount Sinai and Maimonides Medical Centers in New York and the Joslin Diabetes Center in New Jersey.
Special Expertise and Focus
Areas in which she has special expertise include Pediatric/Adolescent Nutrition, Pre and Post Bariatric Surgery Counseling, Mindful Eating/Non-Diet Methods for Weight Management, Gastrointestinal Disorders and treatment of insulin-related diseases including PCOS, Diabetes and Diabetes Prevention. She is a long-standing member of the American Diabetes Association and The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) having served as Chair of the Pediatric Practice Group ‘s Obesity Section and as an article editor for the Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group.
Current areas of focus are moving parent feeding counseling using the Responsive Approach for Extreme Picky Eating and using a non-diet/mindful eating approach for pediatric and adult weight concerns.
She is a registered dietitian Specialist Provider for CDPHP, United Health Care, Cigna and Blue Shield of Northeastern NY plans and will try her best to get your visit covered.
